"Our members at Hazeltine National Golf Club are all players and spend much of their time reviewing the benefits of new equipment. Because we fit and sell a good amount of equipment we are faced with the dilemma of how much we inventory for demos and how do we keep our used equipment at a reasonable cost level. Our partners at Golf Stix have made this a win-win proposition. The professionals at Golf Stix are well informed, give us top value for our trades with quick payment and with an ease of shipping. We can, also, find odd clubs we may not wish to inventory or replace lost clubs almost 100% of the time. If you want to run a more cost efficient golf equipment operation and manage your inventory I suggest you visit with your friends and partners at Golf Stix."

Mike Schultz, a Pittsburgh, PA native and now an Eden Prairie, MN resident, has long been a fixture of the Minnesota golf scene. In 1976, Schultz became only the second PGA head professional in the history of storied Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn., succeeding Don Waryan. Over the past four decades, Schultz has guided club operations at a facility that became one of this country’s hubs for premier golf. Notably, he has helped shape the careers of more than 40 aspiring PGA Professionals and has hosted nine majors including the 1991 U.S. Open and the 2002 and 2209 PGA Champtionship.

Schultz was introduced to the game of golf at an early age by his father, a geologist in the oil industry at the time, and caddied for him at Champions Golf Club in Houston, where he developed his game. After trying his talents at baseball, Schultz turned his concentration to golf and attended South Texas Junior College where he played for two years before attempting to walk on to the University of Texas Longhorns’ golf team. In 1970, Schultz turned professional and began competing in tours overseas before coming back to the states and starting his ‘business’ career in the golf industry. Working side by side with Bob Olds at Minnetonka Country Club, as well as Hall of Famers Bill Kidd and Joel Goldstrand, Schultz learned the ins and outs of the golf industry, which eventually led him to Hazeltine National Golf Club in 1976.

Golf has always been kind to Mike Schultz, but he has done everything in his power and beyond to give back to the game. One of Schultz’s primary goals has been to promote junior golf; in 1980 he developed a junior program that has twice earned Golf Digest’s top national award and currently features 320 juniors. In 1993 he co-founded the Fairway Foundation, bringing golf and its values to inner-city youth. Since then Schultz has launched several other junior golf programs and is currently working locally to develop a beginner’s course to serve as a prototype for Golf 2.0 projects.

In January of 2013, Mike Schultz became the 58th recipient of the PGA Golf Professional of the Year Award. His legacy of service has elevated him to earn the highest annual honor bestowed by The PGA of America on a PGA Professional. This prestigious award couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time, as Schultz retired from his Hazeltine National post last year. Schultz and his wife, Diane, will continue to maintain a residence in Eden Prairie but will move to Florida this winter to start a new company. The new company will create and manage charity events around the country and promote initiatives that encourage more women and girls in the game.
